SETIAWANGSA-PANTAI EXPRESSWAY "SPE" (Previously DUKE Phase-3)

The alignment of Setiawangsa-Pantai Expressway "SPE" (previously known as the Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway Phase-3" DUKE Phase-3), will traverse north to south of Kuala Lumpur and will serve areas such as University Tunku Abdul Rahman, Wangsa Maju, Setiawangsa, Ampang, the Tun Razak Exchange & Bandar Malaysia development corridor and Kerinchi.

Carriage Way: Dual-two carriageway (4 lanes)

Number of Interchanges: 7

Number of ramps: 2

Construction Period : 3 and a half years (Commencing 2016)


BENEFITS OF SPE

To relieve traffic congestion along major city roads or highways.

DUKE master plan: Completion of the SPE, will a new high capacity expressway in the middle metro zone, namely the KL City Bypass.

Allows for the provision of Intercept Park & Ride stations along cordon of MRR2 and KL City Bypass.

Intercept, Collect and Move (ICM) - ICM model involves constructing Park & Ride facilities alongside high capacity roads such as expressways and highways where they intersect urban rail lines.


PROJECT OBJECTIVES

The Setiawangsa-Pantai Expressway "SPE" is expected to provide an alternative route for road users with improved and more efficient traffic dispersal system in the around Kuala Lumpur city center to complement and relief peak hour congestion on existing arterial roads and expressways along its proposed alignment.

The Setiawangsa-Pantai Expressway "SPE" is also expected to improve connectivity with existing expressways and public rail transportation systems such as the KTM Komuter, LRT and MRT lines and providing a holistic and transport system to support the development and modernization of Greater Kuala Lumpur.
